Weninger Blaufrankisch Durrau 2003

Weninger Blaufrankisch Durrau 750ml 2003
Sku: 1430658

3 day lead-time required to confirm availability Why?

Durrau is the oldest and definitely best site in Horitschon. An especially deep, heavily loamy soil that is rich in clay. Once the roots have pushed their way through it, they will always have enough water. It is ideally suited for the Blaufrankisch vines that have been planted here in the 1960s. In 1999 we vinified our Blaufrankisch grapes from the Durrau site as a single vineyard wine for the first time.

In the 2003 Blaufrankisch Durrau, cooked and distilled black raspberry with notes of white pepper inform the nose, hardly putting you on notice that the palate impression will be, despite its alcoholic oomph and weight, overwhelmingly bright and juicy. A sense of creaminess emerges in the strong finish, even as the pepper- and spice-tinged black fruit character remains bright. This is impressive material but relatively raw, and I make note of it now only for fear there will not be a later occasion to report from bottle.
