A reserved white with taut, complex layers of vanilla, florals and nuts, the wine quickly opens up and offers a rich and ripe palate edged with notes of straw, herbs and nuts.
Wine Advocate 92 points - Creamy and rich, the 2011 Soave Classico Vigneto du Lot is so beautifully expressive and profound. There’s nothing obvious about this remarkable wine. Its aromatic evolution spans from crushed mineral and pencil shaving to lemon curd, vanilla custard and sun-kissed apricot. This is a Soave Classico dressed in its Sunday best. It sees six months of oak, of which 20% is new. Those two-fold veins of acidity and minerality will help it age. Drink 2013-2019.  (Oct 2013)

Wine Spectator 90 points - Aromatic, with ground spice and orchard blossom, this meshes refined acidity with subtle flavors of white peach, chamomile and blanched almond. Each vineyard imparts a unique element to the blend; the volcanic soil of Classico lends floral aromas and minerality, and the soils found in Colli Berici contribute depth and structure. The terra rossa soil of this sub-appellation are particularly well suited to growing Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenere. In 1992, Giuseppe handed the reins to his son Stefano who carries on his father’s legacy of minimalist intervention in the vineyards and in the cellar. The grapes are hand-picked and briefly macerated on their skins. After a gentle pressing, the musts are naturally cold settled. In order to preserve the aromas and varietal flavors, the wines are bottled with minimal fining or filtration. “We are organic in the way we grow wines, but don’t declare it, says Stefano. “It is not a marketing tool: the quality of the wine is the marketing tool.

Technical notes
(100% Garganega). This single vineyard offering was named after the rootstock upon which the plants were grafted. Handpicked fruit from estate vineyards in Monte Foscarino planted on basaltic lava was destemmed, macerated on its skins for 4-8 hours, crushed and cold settled for 24-36 hours. The wine fermented in oak barriques (30% new) and received battonage every six weeks for six months. Before bottling the wine was racked and filtered.
