The Moser family has produced highly regarded Austrian wines from estate vineyards in the Rohrendorf, the Kremstal, and the Apetlon at Lake Neusiedl appellations since 1848. Their contribution to modern viticulture is similarly noteworthy. In the 1950s Dr. Lenz Moser developed his eponymous growing method which trains the vines to grow higher, making work in the vineyard much easier. His twin sons, Laurenz and Sepp took over the estate in the second half of the 20th century. The adulterated wine scandal in the mid-1980s decimated Austria’s export market - these lost revenues led to the decline and eventual sale of the winery. As a result, in 1987, Sepp Moser founded a new estate Weingut Sepp Moser. Sepp reduced the number of vineyards in Rohrendorf and in Apetlon, keeping only the best sites and dedicating himself to creating expressive wines from total of 82 acres of vineyards. In 1991, Nikolaus began assisting his father and in 2000 assumed complete responsibility of the estate. All of his wines are organic and/or Demeter certified biodynamic with an emphasis on authenticity and quality.
