Frankland Estate Olmo's Reward 750ml 2009
Sku: 1801946

3 day lead-time required to confirm availability Why?

Established in 1988 by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam, Frankland Estate is a family owned and operated winery located in the Frankland River district, a cool climate region situated 124 miles inland from the Southwest coast of Western Australia. Isolation Ridge Vineyard sits within the family’s 3,000 acre property on which the family has run their sheep and wool growing enterprise since 1974. Their 74 acre vineyard was planted in 1988 to regional soils (aka coffee rock) of ironstone and limonite cemented sand. The vines slowly mature over long dry summers and cold wet winters, are dry farmed and yields are kept low. Winemaker Judi Cullam is assisted by her children, viticulturalist Elizabeth Smith and operational manager, Hunter Smith. Isolation Ridge was certified organic by ACO (Australian Certified Organics) and the fruit for Rocky Gully wines and the single vineyard Rieslings is sourced from locally certified organic growers...

Tasting notes
Aromas of cedar, vanilla and dark stone fruit with earthy undertones are wrapped around a core of fine grained tannins with notes of cocoa.

A blend of 62% Cabernet Franc, 17% Merlot, 16% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 Olmo’s Reward has a medium-deep garnet-purple color and aromas of warm cranberries, red currants and red cherry preserves over dried Provence herbs, lavender, mint and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied with a great foundation of firm, grainy tannins and crisp acid supporting the muscular fruit, it finishes long and savory. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2018+.

This is more Cabernet Franc than anything else, but includes some Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. One of the region’s signature reds, the 2009 offers cherry and cranberry fruit alongside hints of cigar box. It’s soft enough to be approachable now, yet remains stuffed with tannin. Try after 2015. - Cellar Selection
