Wine Enthusiast 90 points - This is a cool, restrained style of Cabernet, which nonetheless manages to pull in ripe flavors of cassis and chocolate. The tannins are svelte and modestly textured, while the flavors turn slightly tart on the cedary finish. Already approachable, but it should drink well through at least 2020. (Sep 2013)
The icon of the Cape Mentelle range and widely regarded as one of Australia’s best cabernets. Firm fruit and well structured, a harmonious blend of intense berry fruit and cedary oak. The fruit sourced for this wine comes from the estate’s Wallcliffe vineyard, planted between 1970 and 1972, located 8km from the ocean.
|Cape Mentelle, sister to Cloudy Bay, is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River. Soon after launch, the winery twice won the Jimmy Watson Trophy, Australia’s most prestigious wine award. Margaret River has limestone soils reminiscent of Bordeaux, and a climate tempered by ocean currents, resulting in expressive and well-structured wines.
