The 2011 Yauquen Bonarda is from Medrano in Mendoza and sees 40% of the wine aged in oak for six months. It takes time to awaken, but eventually offers scents of blackberry, wild hedgerow, cedar and a touch of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with a taut entry, fine acidity and an elegant pretty finish that expresses the varietal with class. Drink now-2016.

Wine maker notes
“Yauquen” is a word from the native Mapuche language meaning “the ritual of sharing a drink amongst friends.” This is the entry-level, value line of wines from Ruca Malen, intended to be enjoyed in good company. European by origin, the Bonarda grape is widely grown throughout Argentina. Ruca Malen Yauquen Bonarda is cultivated from vineyards in Mendoza. Blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry aromas define the bouquet, while the typical spicy notes of this varietal integrate harmoniously amongst them. Smoky, toasted notes appear from aging 40% of the wine for 6 months in French oak barrels. Fresh and juicy on the palate, this is a fruit-forward wine.
