Valerio Vini is the oldest continuously run winery in Molise, Italy. The founder, Prince Giovanni Pignatelli built the cellar in Monteroduni and planted vineyards in 1972. Antonio Valerio bought the property in 2004 and embarked on a long-term restoration project, beginning with the vineyards. The estate is planted with Sangiovese, Montepulciano and an indigenous varietal, Tintilia. Antonio has retained the help of renowned wine consultant, Dr. Riccardo Catarella and along with the recent DOC Pentro designation, this winery and region is poised for growth.
Wine maker notes
DOC-Pentro, a registered designation of origin from the province of Isernia, contains in its disciplinary the features of the classical italian blends. Pressed from the Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes and, recently introducted by the disciplinary proceeding, also from Tintilia grape, the Pentro is a limited productioin of 10,000 bottles. The vinification takes place after 24 months in barrique barrels for malolactic fermentation and then 12 months refinement in bottle. The Pentro expresses the strength of a modern wine quality in a territory that best suited for it. This excellent red wine is the result of a permanent research and engagement, and it takes the significance of the history, traditions and expertise of an ancient population with it, the Pentri, who, as this wine itself, shaped the strong identity of this country, which remains still largely undiscovered. Though young but of a glorious past, this DOC Pentro, has already been captured on its debut by the attention of the best wine Guides and also of renowned audience, not only because it bears the name of the country of origin, but also because it communicated its true special features and uniqueness. Filled in bottles for the first time late in 2007, it means more than twenty years after the first approval of the DOC designation, actually it has become a real cult and contributes more and more for the reputation of this amazing Italian wine region.

Technical notes
(55% Montepulciano/45% Sangiovese) Fruit from 30+ year old vines planted on medium textured, calcareous stony soils was vinified in stainless steel. Malo and aging occurred in new French oak barrels for 24 months.

Producer
In the 1920ís, Detroit roared like no place else. Bootleggers, Gangsters, Flappers and Feds converged on the city as it supplied 75% of the illicit liquor that poured into America during Prohibition. Unprecedented revelry could be found with a secret knock at any of the 25,000 blind pigs and speakeasies. Even Mayor John Smith thumbed his nose at the bluenosers and was once busted at a Mack Avenue juice joint. Inspired by this rebellious swagger, Valentine Vodka Founder and Master Distiller Rifino Valentine decided to take a stand against mass-produced vodkas by using old world techniques and equipment to create a hand-distilled vodka with a proprietary multi-grain blend. This defiant approach has won awards at international competitions for its special taste and smooth drinkability. A Michigan native who gave up a career on Wall Street to craft the perfect dirty martini, Valentine uses locally-sourced ingredients and partners with Michigan companies like McClure’s Pickles (Try a Motor City Mary) , B. Nektar Meadery and Grocer’s Daughter Chocolates. Rifino also crafts Detroitís Ghost Vodka.
