More polished today even than the corresponding 2010, Adelsheim?s 2011 Pinot Noir Elizabeth?s Reserve ? which, given stocks of 2010, is not expected to be release until March of next year ? offers a subtle aromatic mingling of green herbs, diverse floral perfume, and fresh red fruits. Saliva-inducing salinity accompanies its bright, tart-edged red berries, and at barely 13% alcohol the wine evinces a lovely sense of levity. Pungent, resinous herbs; savory beef stock; and a hint of fruit pit piquancy add to the appeal of a prolonged finish. This should perform well through at least 2016.

Elizabeth’s Reserve is comprised of Adelsheim’s ’best barrels from our best lots.’ In this light vintage it brings scents and flavors of pretty cherry and apple fruit, along with a hint of milk chocolate. The tannins are moderate, and there’s a streak of root beer and a little stemmy bitterness carrying through the finish.

Wine maker notes
The name “Elizabeth’s Reserve” was first used in 1986 to designate the blend of our best barrels of Pinot noir. From 1987 until 1999 it designated a single vineyard wine, but in 2000 returned to a “best of winery” reserve - the best barrels from our best lots. Most of the fruit for this wine (65%) comes from five of our estate vineyards located on south-facing slopes of the Chehalem Mountains and Ribbon Ridge. With many wonderful lots representing different soil types, clones, site climates, fermenter sizes, and barrel characteristics, winemaker Dave Paige pulls together those that best create a reserve level wine, one that truly reflects the vintage and character of our corner of the Willamette Valley.
