Steve and Lori Felton, the owners of Klinker Brick Winery are 5th generation farmers. Their vines are primarily old vine Zinfandel planted along the Mokelumne River in Lodi appellation and in the Clements Foothills. For over a century, the family has sold their premium, old vine fruit to benchmark Zinfandel producers until 2000 when Steve and Lori founded Klinker Brick Winery in Lodi, California. The 250 acre estate is planted on sandy loam soils with vines that range from 35-110 years old and are headtrained and dry farmed. The vineyards is divided into fifteen blocks, with an average yield is 2-3.5 tons per acre; the older parcels yield as little as .25 tons per acre. Steve and Lori also farm a small 16 acre parcel called Farrah which is planted to Syrah. Although the Feltons continue to make wine from all of the vineyard blocks, only the best fruit is used for Klinker Brick and their single vineyard wines. “We started the winery with the 2000 vintage of Old Vine Zinfandel. We added the 2001 Farrah the next year, and the 2003 Old Ghost a couple of years later. Old Ghost of course, represents the best of what we make every year and is usually a single vineyard selection, stated Steve Felton. “We have one goal…to produce world-class wine.
